Go to: WordPress Themes, select and download a theme. Upload the theme via FTP to your website to ie: wordpress/admin/themes. Once uploaded the theme appears as a selection in your WordPress Themes in your WP Admin.
There are thousands of WordPress themes to choose from, from agriculture to zoology there is a theme for everyone.
Adding Plugins to your WordPress Blog or Website
Go to: WordPress Plugins, select and download a plugin. Upload the theme via FTP to your website to ie: wordpress/admin/plugins. Once uploaded the plugin appears as a selection in your WordPress Plugins in your WP Admin.
If WordPress can't do it, someone has built a plugin that can, search engine optimization plugins, Podcasts plugins, YouTube plugins etc...
WordPress as a Web Design Tool
WordPress allows you to Blog, Create Pages, Create Photo Galleries, Links, Newsletters, Subscribe Me Lists, Automated Posts and much, much more. WP is much more than simple blogging software, it's a full featured website creation tool.
You can create a page and then set it as your homepage and create a nav that points to additional created pages.
You will also notice in this screenshot that you can click on HTML to directly edit the code of the page your are creating, or paste code from another document.
